Car Rental Portugal: What You Should Know

Portugal is a popular destination in Europe. Each year, tourists come here to enjoy the historic villages, breath-taking beaches, as well as the food and activities. The preferred mode of transportation for many tourists is a car rental Portugal service. There are many of these around the area and it is a good choice over public transportation. They are far more convenient and give you privacy. If you are looking to get a Faro car hire or a car hire Algarve service, here are some things that you should keep in mind:

Renting a car in Portugal and its regions require the driver to provide a copy of their passport, Identity card, and, of course, a valid driving license. Aside from these, car hire services may also ask for a deposit to be paid in cash or by credit card. This deposit may be refunded or deducted upon return of the vehicle. Drivers should take note that there is an age requirement and those who do not meet or exceed the requirement may be fined.

Driving is done on the right-hand side of the road in most places. Caution must be taken at all times and defensive driving must be practiced. Like most places, Portugal prohibits drunk driving or the use of mobile phones while driving. In most villages and built up areas, the speed limit is 50 kph. In open roads outside of town and trunk roads, the limit is 90-100 kph. Lastly, motorways allow a 120 kph speed limit.
