Marrakesh, Morroco: A Charming African Metropolis

Morocco is an exciting vacation spot. The culture is incredibly unique and fascinating. My favorite city in the country is the fourth largest city of Marrakesh. There’s so much to see in this beautiful country.

1) Jemaa el-Fnaa: This is one of the most famous squares in all of Africa. It’s a fascinating place because it’s where Moroccan tradition intertwines with an emerging modern culture. Historically the square was used for public decapitations by various rulers in order to frighten the locals. Yikes! Today the square is much more tame and welcoming, although one should still keep their wits about them as there are many pickpockets hanging around. Jemaa el-Fnaa on a typical day is packed with tourists from all over the world observing the myriad of snake charmers, acrobats, magicians, monkey trainers, story tellers, and other various entertainers dressed in medieval apparel.

2) Souk Semmarine: Marrakesh is famous for its souks. Souks are the most popular outside shopping centers. Souks sell all the quintessential Moroccan trinkets such as leather, carpets, metalwork, pottery, traditional Muslim garb, and lanterns. You can also find delicious foods and popular ingredients found in Moroccan cuisine. My personal favorite is Souk Semmarine which is the largest and most interesting souk. Souk Semmarine is full of brightly colored bejeweled sandals, slippers, and gorgeous jewelry.

3) Kasbah Agafay: One of the new popular activities for tourists to take part in while in Marrakesh is a Moroccan cooking class. My favorite is the Kasbah Agafay. It’s hidden away in a peaceful spot of the Kasbah’s grounds. The cooking class is held in a beautiful garden there. I love this class because it’s very interactive. You begin the class by picking out your own herbs and vegetables. They even teach you how to make your own nan.

Australia: Ecotourism vs. Flash Packing

There is so much to do and see in the “Great Outback” that it can be a daunting task trying to pick out an itinerary. One way to narrow down your activities is to decide if you’re more into the ecotourism type of travel or if you prefer flash packing. Flash packing means that you’re way more into the urbanized style of traveling: you prefer the city life, going out at night, and always dress to impress. Whether you’re into nature or partying it up on your vacation, Australia offers plenty of both.

It’s no secret that Australia is a country full of gorgeous nature. It’s home to stunners like the Great Barrier Reef, the renowned caves of the Margaret River, the 12 Apostles in Victoria, and of course Uluru, a famous sandstone formation in the Northern Territory. In addition, Australia is full of gorgeous beaches and picturesque deserts. There are also plenty of wildlife tours. Kangaroos, koalas and crocodiles are just a few of the wild animals that Australia is known for.

One of the things that I love about Australia is that it’s great for outdoorsy and active people. Water sports like surfing are very popular attractions here for both tourists and natives alike. It’s hard to beat the waves of Australia. There are also plenty of opportunities to sky dive, rock climb, snorkel, scuba dive, and wake board. You name a sport or outdoor activity and you can find it in Australia.

For nightclubs and drinking beer, Australia will definitely not disappoint on that front. There’s a reason that Australians are known worldwide as fun. To put it bluntly, Australians like to party! There are always crazy parties going on at every club and bar throughout the country. Melbourne and Sydney in particular offer amazing nightlife.
